What they do and how

The finance team deployed the Microsoft 365 Copilot finance agent, which works in Excel, on two recurring processes: reconciling credit card transactions and reconciling bank statements. The company has used Dynamics 365 Finance since 2021. According to Microsoft’s blog, for this kind of reconciliation the matching logic and tolerances are defined in Excel and templates are saved to repeat the process.

Reported result

Stated by the source: more than 30 hours a month saved by the accounting team and, in the words of a finance manager, an 80% cut in the time spent on US bank reconciliations after three months of use. Next steps mentioned: supplier statements (1.5 hours each by hand) and cash reconciliation.

Stated figures. An identified person or organization states that they have used it. The results are stated by the source; we have not audited them.

What has really been tested

The company itself has used it, according to the testimonial Microsoft publishes. We have not tested the tool or audited the figures; the story is told by the vendor.

How to replicate it

Pick a repetitive monthly reconciliation based on Excel files, such as a corporate card or a specific bank. Note how long it takes today and how many items are left unmatched, define the matching rules and tolerances, and test on a month that is already closed so you can compare the result with a person’s. Save the flow as a template and review exceptions by hand. Measure after three months, as this company did, before taking the figure as good.

Important nuances

  • This is a testimonial published by the vendor itself. The figures are stated, and we could not verify them independently.
  • The 80% figure refers to a specific process (US bank reconciliations) and the 30 hours is the accounting team’s monthly saving; they are not an overall finance saving.
  • The story also describes an invoice automation with EDI and OCR (10,000 to 15,000 invoices a day) that is not the AI agent: these are separate improvements and should not be mixed up.
